Voting Lines open for Oireachtas Rising Star of the Year 2018

An tOireachtas announced today (11 September 2018) the shortlist for the Rising Star of the Year Award, one of the award categories in their annual Irish Language Media Awards.   There are five young people shortlisted for this year’s award. They are Niamh Ní Chróinín (Raidió RíRá / RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta / Spin1038), Damien Ó Dónaill (RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta), Ciara Ní É (Blogger), Doireann Ní Ghlacáin (Fleadh TV, TG4) and Eoghan Ó Loideáin (Dochreidte Gan Dabt, TG4). Sláine Ní Chathalláin, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, was voted Young Rising Star of the Year in 2017.

The Rising Star Award is determined by public vote. Voting lines are now open and will close at midday on Tuesday, 30 October 2018. Texts cost €1.00/£1.00. 

“I wish to congratulate all our young nominees shortlisted this year”, said Liam Ó Maolaodha, National Director of An tOireachtas. “We first introduced this award in 2015 and it’s fantastic to see the encouragement it gives young people working in the Irish language media sector. The nominees this year have achieved a high standard of work in their respective fields and we are delighted to give them their due recognition”, he said.

This year marks 20 years of the Oireachtas Media Awards. The full shortlist for nominations to all other categories in the Awards was announced by An tOireachtas on the 4 September 2018. The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award - an award which is bestowed annually at the ceremony - will be announced on Tuesday, 23 October 2018.

The Rising Star of the Year Award will be presented during the Media Awards ceremony which takes place during Oireachtas na Samhna festival in the INEC, Killarney, Co. Kerry on Wednesday, 31 October 2018. Full details of our Rising Star nominees are available at www.antoireachtas.ie.
