Aerthonnta.ie is launched at the offices of the BAI
15 March 2018
www.AERTHONNTA.ie is launched! A digital resource for all things GAEILGE on the AIRWAVES!
At an event at the offices of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) today in Dublin, Raidió na Life with the support of the BAI launched the new website www.aerthonnta.ie – an information service for both the public at large and for independent Irish Language radio broadcasters.
Aerthonnta will be provided as a service by Raidió na Life and is aimed at presenters who broadcast through Irish on different radio stations all across Ireland and at the public in general. The website will serve as a central point of information for everything related to the Irish Language in the independent radio broadcasting sector.
Aerthonnta.ie will provide regular updates on news and events in the independent Irish Language radio sector and everything related to the Irish Language in the mainstream English-language sector in particular. A particular emphasis will be placed on publicising Irish Language programmes on independent radio stations throughout the Republic of Ireland (the jurisdiction regulated by the BAI) – from national to local to community radio stations.
Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI said at the launch this morning:
“I am delighted to be launching this website today. The site will be a central information point for the radio community of Irish speakers and particularly those broadcasting programmes around the country through the medium of Irish on mainly English-speaking stations”
Muiris Ó Fiannachta, Station Manager at Raidió na Life stated:
“We in Raidió na Life are delighted and very proud today to launch www.aerthonnta.ie, building on the service which we have operated for the past year through the Aerthonnta brand on social media, through Twitter and Facebook, with the support of the BAI.Having the service now available through one central source of information on aerthonnta.ie is a great development for the service, with an attractive, comprehensive and user-friendly website for anyone who wishes to search for information on different presenters presenting radio programmes through Irish on stations throughout the country – primarily those stations who operate mostly through English, and the choice of programming available in Irish.”
Judy-Meg Ní Chinnéide, Raidió na Life’s Development & Training Officer also said:
“Thanks to www.aerthonnta.ie we’ll be able to build on our work so far to provide a platform for Irish language programmes around the country. We’re now looking forward to being able to offer more support to broadcasters and to reach out to those who are interested in Irish language radio, particularly in English language stations.
Aerthonnta’s social media service was launched in 2017 at @aerthonnta on Twitter and on Facebook at facebook.com/aerthonnta, with the service also having been available on Raidió na Life’s website.
Aerthonnta is a service which had been provided under the ‘Cogar’ brand by Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge, which ceased to exist as an organisation in 2014. Raidió na Life in conjunction with Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge and the BAI relaunched the service as Aerthonnta after Cogar came to an end.
